Where do you start?

Don't make the same mistake that so many new mums do.
You undoubtedly desire beautiful photographs of your newborn, but often that's where the planning stops. As a result, many professional photos end up trapped on USB drives, never to be seen again.

With every client Angie starts with the end in mind. Asking "how are you going to use your photos?". Knowing where you are going to hang your baby's portraits will help your pick the right photographer for you. There is nothing worse then getting stunning images that never end up on your wall because they are supper colourful and wont suit your style or decor.

Most Mums will agree that you will love every photo taken of your baby, but is every image going to be fit for purpose? Will it look stunning on your walls?
Start with the end in mind. Is there empty spaces above the sofa or down the hallway that could do with a little TLC?

Getting ready for your session

Hi, Angie here! I can't wait to meet you in person. Here are a few things to help you get ready for your maternity and newborn session. I always suggest having everything packed and organised a few weeks before the baby arrives, as there is nothing worse than trying to get everything together with a brand new baby!

The first question most clients ask is: "How can we book a session if we don't know when the baby is going to arrive?"

It's really very simple:

  1. Reserve your due date, which allows me to keep a session available for you two weeks before and two weeks after your due date. So no matter when baby gets here we always have a session available for you for the four weeks around your due date.

  2. Dad's job: When baby arrives, Dad texts all the family to tell them baby is here, he needs to add me to that list.

  3. When I receive the text message I will reply with: "Congratulations - your photography session is Tues at 10am".

  4. Easy! But I do warn my clients that we have a very small window of time (the first ten days of babys life) to do these stunning photo shoots, with most of my sessions being around day 7. For this reason I recommend you don't have anything planed that cant be rescheduled for the four weeks surrounding your due date. My diary is very busy and we don't want to miss this moment for you.

WHERE:

The maternity and newborn photography sessions will take place at my AB51 Studio, where you will be welcomed into a warm, comfortable, and relaxing environment that is fully equipped with everything you may need (including free off-street parking!).

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE:

Maternity sessions are 1 hour long, but I am totally fine if they run a little over for my mummies who want to pick my brain on everything from what to pack for their next shot to what I recommend for frames and how to design their wall displays. It's better to be prepared than to wing it!

Newborn Sessions are between 2 and 4 hours, allowing time to feed, cuddle, and make your baby feel happy (and even giving Dad time to have a doze on my couch!). I typically have siblings, extended family, and pets come in at the end, but please raise this with me prior to your session.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO BRING:

You have your hospital bag; now you need a photography bag.

I have all the clothes that you might need for Mum and baby, but your photography bag should include the following:

  • Flesh or white-coloured underwear for Mum. A simple, smooth fabric bra, such as a t-shirt bra, and underpants, to ensure lines do not show through.

  • Dad's outfit should consist of a white t-shirt without any logos or collar (no shirts or polo shirts), paired with blue jeans. While I understand that Dads often have their favourite branded t-shirt, logos can be distracting in the final image.

  • Please bring wipes, ointments, and creams for your baby.

  • If you are bottle-feeding, please bring twice the amount you typically go through in a four-hour period. Babies tend to eat more during the session, and we want to ensure all their needs are met.

  • Pack a full change of clothes, nappies, and a sterilised spare dummy for the baby, if you are using one.

  • Feel free to bring drinks and snacks, as you will be with me for up to four hours. However, tea, coffee, and water are provided at the studio.

Having experienced childbirth myself, I understand how tender you may feel for the first couple of weeks after your baby is born. For this reason, I have set up a lounge area in my studio with comfortable sofas, with ample opportunities to rest. The initial months with a new baby can be overwhelming, so please feel free to arrive in your pyjamas. The most important thing is that you make it to the studio. I will take care of everything else. You will have plenty of time to do your hair and makeup while I attend to the baby, so don't stress about those details. I am here to support you and make the process as easy as possible.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ALL THE PHOTO SHOOTS:

Following your newborn photography session, we will schedule a viewing appointment for you to review all your portraits from the comfort of your own home. At your appointed time, I will call and email you a link to your online gallery, where we will watch a slideshow video of all your final images set to music. I challenge you not to shed a tear! Once you are completely satisfied, you can confirm which package you would like and make payment. Orders typically take between 1-4 weeks to arrive. Upon their arrival, I will send you a text message to arrange a date and time for you to collect your stunning images
